Some one of the world's best wild trout fishing is found in New Zealand's unspoiled backcountry. Summer (October to April) has some outstanding flyfishing for both browns and rainbows in the many crystal clear streams. Both species range from 2-6 pounds, with fish in excess of 10 pounds in some of the remote mountain streams or shallow picturesque lakes. Winter (May to October) is when the main spawning runs take place, fishing then is mainly for migrating rainbows in local tributaries and rivers.
